A beacon of hope in Kilometer 6, giving children an excellent education grounded in Christian values.
Our story
Pastor Elza Phanord and her late husband, Reverend Jean Luc Phanord, shared a vision to build a school for the children of Kilometer 6 in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Located in the heart of one of the area’s largest and most economically challenged neighborhoods, the Joe Hartman School gives more than 200 children each year access to an excellent education and Christian values. The school serves students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and continues through the support of volunteers, donors, prayer partners, and student sponsors.
“For I know the plans I have for you; plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Our most urgent needs
The school is still waiting for government assistance with teacher pay. In the meantime, dependable donor support is essential to keep experienced educators in the classroom and give students the materials they need.
Qualified teachers have had to leave for better-paying positions. Monthly support helps the school retain dedicated educators and staff while government assistance remains pending.
A yearly sponsorship includes the uniforms and books a student needs for school.
A security system covering the entire property will help safeguard students, teachers, staff, ministry members, and facilities.
Life at Joe Hartman
Each photograph reflects the everyday promise behind the school’s mission: children welcomed by name, supported in their learning, and encouraged to imagine a hopeful future.
From pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, students build knowledge and confidence in an environment shaped by care and Christian values.
Teachers, families, volunteers, donors, and mission partners help create the support system that keeps students learning and moving forward.
Milestones that matter
Graduation honors the effort of each student and the community that has invested in their journey. Every certificate represents learning achieved—and a new chapter ready to begin.
